The end of Leehom's tour is definitely an end to an era for me.

These 2.5 years of touring most cities I've never been to,

the international friendships made,

the gourmet cuisine,

the fast food take outs,

the adrenaline-pumping performances,

the 40000strong crowd singalongs,

the airplane-transit-coach routines,

the rockin parties in leehom's sprawling suites,

the celebration dinners,

am missing very much now as i go through the photos.....

I ADMIT:
this blog has suffered an identity crisis ever since the wave of social media and the launch and marketing of my album!

i have been distracted by twitter, facebook and weibo so much -
the constant need for short status updates,
funny pictures,
the lastest news about my promotional appearances,
the where i've been, what i've done, who i've seen...

the statistics on how many Likes i've had,
how many comments...
it would be really nice to not know the numbers!

i've long removed the blog hit counter and i don't know how many people are reading this,
so i can pretend that nobody is,
and i can say whatever i want without any pressure of knowing whether you LIKE this or NOT.

for the record,
all promotional news will be on the official www.taykewei.com
and i had an AWESOME time in Hong Kong recently!!

but usually, by the time i'm done organising the photos on facebook i'm too tired to write about my thoughts in any depth.

and by the time i have any time to sit down and recount my gratitude, the promotions would have been weeks back.

i have thought of closing this blog
and moving on to a next chapter of my life
(maybe onto tumblr?)
but i feel drawn to my roots
(and here you can even scroll back to 5 years ago and check whether i've done any plastic surgery)
and i need space like this to vent.

the last i felt this way about this blog was in October,
just when the promotions were starting.

i see a pattern now:
there seems to be a desperation to cling onto the "who you really are" before you embark upon a slew of promotions which allows the media/critics/reviews to define who you are.

i'm back here now,
because promotions have ended,
and i am looking within myself to create the next album,
and i am back to writing,
which is more than just a touch of inspiration or spontaneous sharing,
it is dedication and commitment to sit at my keyboard, to hold my guitar, and to share the best of me that i can muster.

i am blessed to be able to create music, and i treat this gift with respect, and a little fear sometimes...

Behind the Scenes of MV Shoot - 可不可以﹗

the MV is the brainchild of Cheong H.H, and the team from Playhouse Pictures,
my kindred spirit based in Kuala Lumpur ^_^

he's been a super supportive friend, always full of ideas to shoot for my songs, always willing to help,
and he and his team has always been involved with big-scale productions and commercials,
so i'm truly blessed that he was so excited about shooting my MV for me!

we left everything in their good hands,
the concept, the storyboard, the planning,
and it was only the day before that i heard about...
a potential FIRE scene!

what???
still, i didn't ask much, we went ahead because i trusted them completely that it would be rockin. :)

we set off from Singapore at midnight,
reaching KL at about 430am,
and headed straight to the location at 6am.

it was an outdoor location in a seriously ULU place!

and the best part was the rain rain rain...
which rained out the entire area and turned it into a mudslide.

we waited and slept in the van for about 2 hours...
it was a major CRISIS and they had to decide if they wanted to abandon the location and shoot indoors instead....

in the end they braved it out and bought as many pair of BOOTS they could find for the crew and everyone else!!!

we had to figure out the best way to drive in,
and behold the view.....

this is honestly an mud/sand/grit excavation spot for construction purposes,
so kudos to the location manager!

the most amazing thing is that this place is probably no longer around in this world,
since after more excavation it would look entirely different.

i've been going to Shanghai mainly for tours,
and the funny thing about touring is you develop a routine of going to rehearsals, soundchecks, and dropping by the same restaurants
that you lose your tourist instinct or drive to do anything different.

this time round with 3 Shanghai newbies I happily took the lead to bring them around!

the usual suspects, you should be familiar with :)
my buddy Einein (keyboard) and Wah Yong (bass), from KEEP! days :)

this is Dean, my manager, revealed!
He has to constantly endure my insecurities and is always asking me to relax and not to worry...
he is Mr Nice Guy #1.
when you see him on the streets please help me thank him :)

admittedly it was the 1st time I visited the Bund at night!
it was tourist rush all over again and we were soaking in the perfect chilly weather and drinking in the sights...

we had a spread of a dinner by my old friend Kevin

2010 was a year of action for me.
After years of touring as backup vocalist, I finally released something to call my own.

The 1st half of 2010,

I launched KEEP! with Einein,
an independently produced/marketed/sold EP (1000 copies) that was only available through mail-order (which we handled ourselves entirely),
created our own website in a few days,
and held a mini-tour in Hong Kong (Backstage), KL (No Black Tie), Taipei (Riverside Cafe), Kending (Spring Scream Festival) and Singapore (K-Union).

We met our idol Khalil Fong (who came to our show in Hong Kong!!!) and were invited to PK for SuperIdol in Taiwan...

We filmed our MV in Bangkok, with the help of Cheong from Playhouse Pictures, who volunteered his services, inspired by our passion and fired up to work with people who were like himself.

We sold out all our copies, with about 20 copies left at Crazy World Cafe.
We've moved to digital mp3 sales at CDBaby and iTunes.

We were just 2 girls who decided to do something for ourselves, supported by our fans and Youtube viewers, who were generous in dispensing super supportive comments, who were genuinely inspired by our passion for sharing our music, for keeping up with our videos and updates.

When we decided to launch an EP, we had to muster all the resources we had,
to design and print the EPs,
to arrange and record the tracks,
to deliver the product through mass media (radio, magazines, press)

We have to thank everyone who helped us along the way, who believed in us,
who joined the ride for an amazing chapter that KEEP! had achieved.

it was so much fun, i really want to do it all over again.

The 2nd half of 2010,
i took my recording career one step further,
by releasing a full-length album, distributed regionally.

my album preview concert was my first ticketed show,
and it was held at the Esplanade Recital Studio,
sold-out to loyal fans who have followed my career thus far

the album was launched with much support from the superstars i've worked with,

i sang a duet with Christian Bautista

received Best Local New Artiste - Media's Choice by Singapore Hit Awards

promoted the album everywhere I could

collaborated with the Philharmonic Winds

and again with Playhouse Pictures and Cheong for my first solo MV "可不可以 (This Too Shall Pass)"

I have to thank all of you reading this,
for being kind towards me and my big dreams,
and for all your Youtube views, Facebook likes & comments, spreading the word about my music, for every single little thing you have done which ennobled my 2010.

i am speechlessly excited about this MV,
which the crew from Playhouse Pictures, led by director Cheong H.H,
tirelessly and passionately worked on to fulfil our dream of the perfect MV.

we had time constraint (had to shoot within a day - 6am - 3am!!!)
budget constraint... (more costs incurred on shoot than was imagined)
weather constraint (our outdoor location was completely rained out!)

but with trembling hands i present this to you...

so much hard work was put in by the film crew,
that i pushed myself to my limits and gave all i could...
just so i wouldn't let them down...

i feel like i've become less personal,
with all the facebook news spam about my latest gigs and latest photos,
and with random boring tweets.

i haven't been sharing much,
because there was a lot i was thinking about, and many things i couldn't openly share.

my label has been working hard and fighting for more opportunities for me,
and i want to thank all of them.

they're not a major label who can call the shots, so it's an uphill climb for us.
these few months, i have been educated on this world of music business, and am still learning.

i like coming back here to blog at length about whatever i wanna say.
so, i want to start over, and say,
here i am!

a year and a half ago,
i subscribed to this school of thought:
that unlike most Asian versions of "singer-songwriters",
a singer-songwriter is someone who writes the melody AND lyrics, not just melody.

so i usually start out with a little spark of novelty,
a metaphor,
an emotional quagmire,
and i jot down some phrases.

i would usually scribble rambling thoughts related to my working title or content...
and i would leave it at that.

most of them never get finished.
those that do, they are usually written in one sitting,
like Plastic Mannequin Love and Come Closer.

but i put faith and value in hard work,
and today i played the piano again, and tried singing to some bits and pieces of words that have been written.

just that i ended up surfing John Mayer and watching South Park: Insheeption. LOL

so there wasn't a chance for me to actively promote the album in Singapore...

I had an awesome time working with the incredibly popular, but humble and sweet Christian Bautista, hope to sing this with him again soon :)

When I first heard about singing with Christian Bautista, I immediately recalled his hit song "The Way you Look at Me" :)

I was tasked to write the Mandarin lyrics for my parts, and I took on the challenge immediately!

My producer Tat Tong and I rushed them out in 2 days... here it is!
It was not easy thinking of matching the Mandarin parts with the English parts, and especially when we had to work in the Mandarin bits into the harmonies.

I'm glad Christian took to the challenge and sang the last bit in Mandarin!

hello from beijing :)

i received a bittersweet piece of news while rehearsing for JJ's tour here,
when my good friend Buwei from my ZPGY gang texted me saying,
"sistic said only 2 tickets left! i need 9 tickets! how??"

i redirected him to my manager but to no avail,
the seats were limited and my ZPGY cannot get tickets to my show!!! :(

But I still want to thank you for your love and support...!

but it is GOOD NEWS NEVERTHELESS!!!
thank you early birds for getting your tickets early, i can't believe it's SOLD OUT!

a while ago, i posted this on Facebook.

最近都很忙。。。專輯的曲風大家會不會喜歡? 新造型大家會不會不習慣? 想念無憂無慮﹐唱歌放上Youtube的日子。

i seldom blog at length about what goes through my mind nowadays,
instead i condense them into 140 characters or thereabouts.

but things are brewing, brewing.
double-boiled goodness to be served straight up, come September!

before it all explodes onto the big screen,
i want to say -
i miss the simple, carefree me who could appreciate and draw poetic wisdom from all little things.
i miss the space to sit down and write songs about all this little inspirations.

i'm twirled up in the messy sheets on this bed of commercial entertainment,
but part of me wants to tear through and show you how i look in the nude.

still,
for the first time in my life,
i am stylishly dressed,
my hair and makeup preened to perfection,
and i feel a strong urge to readdress my shopping instincts
and to revamp my wardrobe!

i am definitely enjoying this sartorial revolution!

it was an honour for me to sing with a veteran such as Eric Moo,

and to work with the band leader Jonathan Koh.

and the super awesome band who are mainly Singaporeans!!!

with Seng and Anne, who were dedicated, passionate, hardworking and talented singers!

with Bong on bass and Ruth on keyboards (both I super admire!)

and Jeremy on drums, who popped his concert cherry this time! (who i super admire too!)

here with Jianmin from Taiwan (guitar), Jonathan (guitar/band leader!), Seng and Anne (backing vox), Steven from KL (keyboard), Ruth (keyboard) and Jeremy (drums)

it was a great experience working with band for the first time,
it's been a while since my last concert!

music is really something that grows together with us,
as how eric moo's music has grown together with so many of his audience members！

他说了一句让我好感动的话：

“我在35岁的时候，想，嗯。到了40岁，就不唱了。
然后到了40岁的时候，又想，到了45岁，应该就不唱了。
现在，我已经47岁了，还在为大家唱歌。”

这是一种好真实的告白，与感激。
我常常也在想，唱歌事业，可能到35岁，就没有人要听了吧。

所以我现在，特别觉得sustainability对歌手/艺人是最重要的。
要如何提升自己，idea层出不穷，一直带领着潮流，和生活的脉搏。
要如何持久。

bills, notifications, advertisements! so much trash!

who keeps this stuff! or even if you do, do you punch holes and file them like you did in the 90s???

okay for the longest time,
i did the best that i could - i kept all these envelopes/paper that was printed on one side
for future use.

my to-do list.

now i just seem really silly.
i should stop the problem at its source!!

BUT you can still show your support to go paperless by petitioning to Stop Envelope received from your billers.

i took my album for a test drive

i ran out of CD-Rs in my home.
none in my sister's room either.

oh! when you need them the most!

i finally bought one, did a rough sequencing of the 13 tracks,
and burnt the 13 unmastered tracks of my album,
but to my dismay, there were 2 error files
so i ended up having only 11 tracks,
on my single, precious, sole CD-R.

nevertheless,
11/13 of my album is now spinning on my rides...
what better way to test-drive your album than in the car!

i am slowly but surely feeling the vibe of the album now...

ahh. sequencing is so important!
my sequence 1.0 has proved to be flawed upon first listen,
i'll tweak it upon my next attempt to burn all 13 tracks!

ps. having said that, my boss is in charge of the track sequencing...
but i will hope to give my 2 cents worth :)

i have a secret.

sometimes i feel a little displaced from society.

i don't enjoy fast fashion, i don't enjoy relentless retail therapy,
nor our addiction to crass consumerism.

i wish i could find more like-minded people who consciously TRY to play a part
in saving our environment from its eventual doom.

we might not be able to stop the destruction, but we can help slow it down.

have you watched Toy Story 3?
what stood out for me was the all the trash that gets sent to landfills or incinerators.
it's something that ought to be kept in sight, kept in mind.

where all these consumer products come from, where they go when we "trash" them out.

忽略這裡太久了。。。﹗﹗﹗

我們經歷了好多不安﹐緊張﹐無奈﹐花了一筆錢﹐就為了博一個美夢成真。。。﹗
這個旅程﹐是很夢幻的。。。現在回想起來。。。

當超偶工作人員慢慢找到我們時﹐很誠懇的邀請我們去台北參加超偶PK﹐
盈盈很興奮﹐我卻是抱著一種***什麼﹗﹗***的心情﹗(真的不知道怎麼解釋)
因為我經歷過了電視錄影的比賽現場﹐也稍稍經歷過挫折﹐我知道沒有靠山的醬子去﹐是很危險的。
為什麼危險呢? 因為輸的機會高﹐被狠批的機會高﹐錢會花得很不值得等等。
而且我們都有工作在參﹐要及時推掉很為難﹐況且機票及時買﹐也非常貴﹗

可是盈盈沒去過﹐而且KEEP﹗的宗旨就是﹕好玩就Just Do It!
我們一向都憑著這個理念﹐才越玩越大﹗

況且﹐可以讓更多人認識我們﹐那一定會是好事﹗贏不贏真的不是重點﹗
我們就憑著這點﹐開始排除萬難的安排。

首先儘量排掉工作﹐惹了不少麻煩﹐
然後是訂機票 - 原本以為可以有朋友幫忙﹐沒想到到最後還是訂不到票﹐
在一面接受訪問的當兒﹐一邊設法訂票﹗

一直到晚上﹐最終最便宜的選擇﹐是得先到吉隆坡﹐才轉機到台北﹗
因為在24小時內﹐又不能訂往吉隆坡的機票﹐所以我們決定搭6小時的大巴﹗﹗
到吉隆坡過一晚﹐隔天才前往台北﹗

我們很誠懇吧﹗﹗﹗

因為時間太趕﹐我們到了台北機場﹐才開始找當晚的住宿。
不是鐘點酒店﹐就是太貴﹐不然就是客滿﹐我們連續4晚都換酒店哦﹗

I had the luck and honour to work with Christian Bautista, whom I knew earlier because of the song The Way You Look At Me...

He is Philippines' #1 heart-throb, and making it really big in Indonesia and in the region... When we're out for dinner or drinks, wherever there are Filipinos, he would be stopped for photos and autographs! I can only stare on in amazement at how big he is!

I met him briefly on Wednesday night for dinner as he just touched down in Singapore,
and the next day we had a full-blown MV shoot from 8am till night,
and we were lovers for a day!

it was entirely bizarre for me, but he was sooo professional and fun to work with,
he made it really easy for me!

Panda the little dog brought us together in this MV!

We also performed this duet live for the first time at his album launch promo at DXO this past Friday, stay tuned for more pictures on my Facebook :)

This duet is in his latest album Romance Revisted, and would also be in my upcoming debut album with S2S.

I can't wait to see the MV! :)

Our KEEP! tour finally draws to a close.

Our KL show at No Black Tie yesterday was (I think) one of the best I've sung so far...
we learnt so much through this little tour,
and practice makes perfect.

I'd like to share our little music video from KEEP!
that would have been IMPOSSIBLE without the love and support from Cheong. :)

His belief in us made me believe that an MV was possible,
we flew to Bangkok, met him over tomyumgoong,
without any storyboard or plan,
kicked off our shoot,
with an iphone and x-mini speaker in tow.

Many thanks to Chriz, Oy, Jacie, Shan for trudging around Bangkok with us for 2 full days,
carrying our bags, carrying our little guitarlele, robots,
bringing so much fun and laughter to our shoot!

that we term The Tour.

i don't know if i would ever get to be a touring artiste of that scale,
but we have managed to do a mini-tour with KEEP! from Kewei & Einein
(Hong Kong, Taipei, Kending completed, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur upcoming),
and I have been blessed and lucky to be part of David Tao, Leehom, Amei, JJ's tour...
so I am contented!

Okay only for about 3 minutes.

Ah Mann, an introverted supermarket worker has fallen in love with a female regular patron, Jamie. He has one last night to profess his love for her just before the supermarket closes down. He has a song that he can never seem to complete. The closely knit supermarket staffs come together in one accord to help him complete his song. However it is Jamie who holds the key to the song finale.

So much hard work and effort was put in by the crew, and one scene could take an entire afternoon!

Benjamin and I recorded a duet for this musical at the Lee Weisong School of Music,
a product by Hanxiang and Jiayu, produced by Jay :)

kayaking-turned-ocean-cleaning exercise

while we're on the topic of beaches,
me and some folks spontaneously invented this game!

we decided to kayak at East Coast Park for some mindless fun with the sun, sand and sea,
and after about 10 minutes it got pretty boring.

not to mention the amount of trash that was floating around in the sea.

we started to hoist them up with our oars onto our boat.
and it was pretty challenging, considering the direction of the waves, the direction our kayak was floating at, and it was almost like a video game!

a variety of items... all plastics!

We collected an entire picnic collection, a shoe, a tennis ball, beautiful glass bottles.

It escalated into pirate warfare,
we would snatch the most desirable and interesting piece of trash from each other's kayaks.

The tennis ball and that huge piece of blue plastic was in high demand.

i don't know what the kayak-rental guy was thinking,
but i hoped that he would be moved in some way.

i encourage you to try this,
or simply just be more conscious when u trash stuff on the beach.

it doesn't disappear.

perhaps he would have more influence than myself:

jason mraz is all about being eco-friendly.
check out his blog for daily inspirations.

small simple steps on water conservation,
and mindfulness.

i'm glad i found a like-minded friend through his blog.

我很同意作者的看法，因为在这张EP我确实没有什么发挥！：P
只是一首一气呵成的one-take hotel demo,
然后再一首和盈盈的合唱，
似乎只是一张teaser EP，并不能称的上是什么代表作！

好久没有tour了。。。第一次到泉州，很过瘾！

住在好豪华的酒店。。。

人比起来都很小。。。

简直是金碧辉煌！

很努力的阿姨

到了很新的体育场表演。。。

没想到那么冷，彩排是还下雨！
大家快疯了。。。还好宵夜是热腾腾的火锅！

彩排时间。。。有一大半是在等待。。。

有的静静的，
有的甚至用毛巾球开始打起排球来了！

弦乐手还没到，搞怪的dancers都上阵了！
用大腿拉琴。。orz !!!

一片一律的绿色萤光棒。。。

不管多冷，力宏还是超尽兴！
他最近忙着拍电影的事，好辛苦 -
能够回到他最熟悉的舞台，他自己都说，还是在音乐的世界里让他最享受！

但接受电影界的挑战，我想也是刺激的！

i haven't been blogging recently!
nor feeling any urge to do so...

i suspect it's the facebook and twitter micro-blogging
that kinda breaks down this habit...

but i still love my blog!
it's a precious, thoughtful record of what I've been through,
and I enjoy looking back (when i have the time... which is none recently...)

I wanna talk about our EPs finally being mailed out!
and also AMIT concert which I enjoyed so much!!

but i wanna let pictures do the talking
and i'm lazy to upload pictures.

so instead I'm gonna share with you my thoughts on being a musician.

i think it's so much more hard work and effort to be a good musician, than a good singer!

Being a singer, you are entitled to your own interpretation, your own style,
and you can basically do whatever you want to create some kind of image,
you can even sing like crap but get people to love your style/performance.

Being a musician, you pretty much have no choice but to acquire some chops.
which means hard work and practice.

i'm hardly an instrumental kinda person,
i mainly listen out for vocals in a song...
show me the best musicians to play jazz, or rock, whatever
and i think my focus will wander after a while,
unless they keep surprising me with technicality, or some sort of performance.

But this, I listened to the whole day :)

soothing pop stuff... easy-listening, but beautiful.

but at a live show, he keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Thanks Vincent for reminding me how amazing Tommy Emmanuel is!

So for the longest time, there was this nagging feeling at the back of my head that said Time To Update Your Youtube.

So my sister Kexin and I recorded this in the dead of some night
and here it is!
She's currently at Riverside, California now, and will be for the next 3 months...
vacationing, and sometimes remembering to study :)

So many people confuse the two of us, thinking I'm her or she's me when they see us on the streets. So here we are together, to set the record straight! :)

hello 2010!

hello to a new year,
hello to man-made divisions in time,
hello to New Year Resolutions that are not followed, nor make any sense.

all throughout the year i have been working hard,
striving for new inspirations,
opening my mind to new things -
i started yoga mid last year,
Japanese classes late last year,
Einein and I jumped onto an EP project late last year and made the impossible possible, by releasing our EP in 2 months, just in time for our Hong Kong show (behold the power of fixed deadlines!)

and I know as New Year approacheth,
that 1 Jan 2010 is just gonna be another new day for all things possible.

I have 2 things to share.

1stly,
Was shopping for a new laptop (not for myself though), and it came down to PC vs MAC.
After much fussing around, we decided on a Fujitsu, which everyone knows is a Made-in-Japan high end PC.
We went to 3 stores to compare freebies, and landed a better deal each time.

Eventually we checked out the Apple store,
and fiddled around with iMovie and iPhoto,
and the deal was sealed.

With comparable specs, Apple provided simple straightforward solutions for the non-techie consumer (me),
at a lower price.

The website was super easy to use -
do you want whie or black?
do you want more RAM?
do you want more hard disk space?
Done.

Everyone knows there's a Mac, Macbook Pro, Air, Powerbook
and everyone knows, or can guess its function from the name.

Who can name me a Fujitsu model?

Dell, HP, Acer, Compaq, etc - everyone is fighting in their same field with little distinguishing features, it eventually boils down to price competition which can only hurt the brand and its profits.

Mac is languishing in its own field, miles away from PC competition.

No doubt it took time to build its reputation of COOL,
aided by musicians and artists who used its system,
musicians and artists who defined COOL.

In my business and career,
that's what I want to aim for.

To stop petty competition in limited markets, and to reach out and expand into areas that are unconventional - and to provide something different.

It's not easy, it takes time,
but it all starts with a vision.

Second morsel for thought -

I read Jason Mraz's blog from time to time and it inspires me,
his commitment to environmentalism resonates with what i believe in,
and his commitment to spread the word to live consciously
makes me want to reiterate again and again what i believe in.

I become a fan of not only his music,
but his style, and mostly him as a person.

It seem like his music is only a byproduct of his person,
a distillation of what he is and how he lives.

His enduring success is only a byproduct of his person,
a reflection of how his music can spread his message, his personality, and endear him to millions of people.

A lot of people want to write music that would be a commercial hit,
or write music that people would like,
that would appeal to the masses etc.
With this motivation, some will succeed, some will fail.

But i think what endures, is to live fully and consciously,
and to write what means something to you, and what matters,
and when your music becomes a byproduct of your person,
instead of a conscious effort to win hearts and to sell records,
that's when you will succeed.

I hope to share more meaningful stuff in the future,
than the food I ate and the things I bought, etc.

largely because Khalil Fong came to our show!

if you've read about the 4-Hour-Work-Week,
you'd know that the one of the keys to productivity is to have tight deadlines
- which forces you to work as efficiently as possible.

Turns out, it's true.

Within a month, Einein and I have cranked out a piping hot EP.

Well, truth is,
we just submitted the CD cover/layout for printing,
and will be recording our vocals tomorrow.

If we don't receive the prints by Sunday, it won't be ready for Hong Kong in time.

Amidst all these glaring impossibilities,
lurks a glimmer of hope that our fairytale will end happily ever after,
we will get everything done just in the nick of time,
and this will be a great story to tell in the future.

Please pray with us that all goes smoothly. :)

Checking our draft layout at 2am,
rushing for printing the next day,
holding the draft mockup of our EP, in awe,
this feels like a Final Year Project of sorts.

An important update:

To all those who have emailed me, I have received your emails.
I simply had no time to write a proper reply!

And after working out our costs and estimating the quantity to print,
we cannot cover costs at S$6 per EP.

So, the price of our EP would be at S$8 instead!
Everyone will be informed before your decision to pay :)

Have updated our order form correctly,
and also added a Chinese translation for the benefit of Taiwanese who have asked me to explain the details! :p

peeps, this is a RAW, ACOUSTIC, HOMEMADE EP of 3 originals (1 English, 2 Mandarin)
and this is as home-made as it can get.

FAQ

Q. How do I make payment?
A. Paypal, and ATM/internet-banking transfer for locals.
Details will be given in my email replies soon!

Q. What is the expected delivery date?
A. At this point, I'm looking to get the final copies before I leave for Hong Kong in mid- December, and I figured to mail anything out in the Christmas season will be rather silly,
so perhaps in 2010 as a New Year present? :p

Q. What's the deadline for ordering?
A. There is no definite deadline, but like I mentioned, this will be a limited edition! (ie. I would not be looking at reprints).

i did more homework doing japanese and french worksheets,

what i've learnt from this dude,
is that despite being on TOP of his game,
being such a mega superstar that he is,
despite landing endless commercials and gigs,
he works hard.

there is nothing very mysterious about success,
especially when i get this close to leehom.

true, his good looks, luck, talent all played a part, 天时地利人和blah blah blah,
but if you can stick through it,
re-invent yourself and remain an artiste for more than 10 years and still be as big,
it all boils down to hard work.

so we've all heard the statistic, he's been to 29 cities within 40 days,
endless 商业演出, he's swimming in piles of money,
but he ain't partying.

after his ION gig in Singapore, we hung out till late,
and the next morning he flew back to Taipei immediately for a huge open-air show to about 60000 people at night.

and there i was lounging in my house the whole day,
and I watched the Taiwan news on TV in amazement:
Wow, he's sporting exactly the same hair, and wasn't he just here with me less than a day ago?

How can someone so effectively maximise his time spent everyday?

And he'll be directing his own movie very soon, and starring in it as well -
it's a personal project that he made come true,
something totally different than what he's used to (making albums)
and definitely taxing,
but it will bring his career to a whole new level.

Have you ever wondered,
everyone's partying, having supper, watching the movies, having a good time.
Everyone's trying to schedule their time to meet friends, packing their social calendar to the brim,
I had a wild thought that I don't want to be like everyone.

I want to succeed.

Not many people succeed, the ones who do,
are not like everyone else.

The ones who succeed are different from everyone else,
they subscribe to a different lifestyle,
they work extra hard.

Being successful is just a place not many people get to -
it filters the hard worker from the insanely hard working ones.

Like so many other people, for many different reasons,
he's gonna be my role model for now.

I won't be able to reach where he is now, but if I can get close,
it would be darn remarkable.

nope, this is not a Halloween-themed party post!!

LITERALLY, i went back to RGS for my 10 YEAR REUNION!

I wanna run through the halls of my high school

This is part of the class with our beloved Principals :)
See, being part of a girly secondary school is actually... really memorable :)

We were back in our school hall,
and I felt a really strange sense of familiarity,
and I even felt that everything seemed SMALLER than before.

I don't know, maybe it was just my 4-inch heels.

I didn't sing the John Mayer song,
but I did sing Over the Rainbow with fellow schoolmate Dawn Ho on piano :)

I am very proud of my yellow name-tag that says KEWEI,
we used to have big bright yellow name-tags on our pinafores...
those were the days...

and we swayed in old-fashioned BFF style
singing our school songs...

In fact, I'll be back to RGS tomorrow morning for a little show for the Secondary 3s!
I'm jittery.. I hope they will like me :p

So this super overdue entry marks the unofficial end of DT's 123 We Are All Wooden Men Tour,
and as we speak,
he is already well into this 2nd or 3rd show of his new tour in Taipei!

I wonder if we would reconvene soon...

at the Cotai Arena at Venetian, Macau...

We sang 火鸟功 for the first time here,
and David lugged along his Matchless amp, complete in a DT box.

Glad to make new friends with the lovely and pretty Anita!

Mike our sound engineer.. is the best

everyone mimics Jingles' signature ass-shaking grroove!

and for the post-post-party we later head onto the Bellini lounge at Venetian
and David Tan took to the stage...

and we met an amazing guitarist-singer-songwriter Jay Leonard Juatco... yessir!
and had soooo much fun writing songs on the fly...
i thought writing and singing songs on the fly only happened on Whose Line Is It Anyway,
but i was WRONG.

this guy kicks ass.
i'm waiting for him to become famous.

PS. I heard David Tao's new show Rock and Talk comes to Singapore 8 January... AHHH!! I would definitely be there!!!

you know, i only started singing when i was 19 years old.

i never took part in singing competitions in school before that, never wanted to.

when i was in university a friend asked me to perform her original song for a showcase.
i did, and i made so many friends from the show... i guess i never turned back.

my point is,
WHY DOES CHRISTINA AGUILERA SING EXACTLY THE SAME WAY SHE DID WHEN SHE WAS SEVEN FREAKIN YEARS OLD???

Did i mention he's hot?
Did i mention he just stood there to listen to me sing, and before he left he said goodbye?
i smiled... and forgot my lyrics.

i imagined going up to him, saying
"hey sup. you know, we're just one degree apart yo, i'm now singing in a band with an Asian artiste, that your drummer Eric Fawcett is playing for now"
*smiles*

okay, but i didn't.

we had great fun,
with champagne and chocs on sticks floating by...

incredible album, i must say.
it felt like an adventure, and i was found myself both amused and humbled, by the creative ideas behind it, and by the amount of effort and sheer work put into the album.

不过制作单位觉得太单调,没有起伏...
所以我只好来一个full band version...

感觉没有很对...也并不是我所想要表达的...

星光PK - part 1!

感谢大家的支持...
说真的,在短短的两分钟内,
要表现的最好,
我不会 :p

我有尽力而为,可是我并没有让大家惊艳,
我觉得错失这个机会,很可惜.

或许是歌选错,
或许是喉咙状况不好,
或许现场音响不佳...

太多个或许,
我觉得到最后其实真的都没有很重要.

因为没有人很会在乎...
大家可能喜欢可为这个女生的声音,
就会上网找找看.
不喜欢也不会去理会...

我很幸运有这个机会上电视唱歌,
让好多人听见,
可是更重要的事...
我接下来要筹备的专辑...

我第一次上电视录影,感觉怪怪的,
也当然会紧张 ... 是陶子姐勒!
第一次见面她就把我讲到那么厉害,
让我很尴尬 :S

也想说明一下 - 我的两个chorus之间,
原本有一大段bridge

这段被咖掉了...

所以歌曲的key听起来有点太低,

diya和carrie是我很爱的两个好朋友,
他们blog上写了很多关于星光的感想...
很一针见血,
好多时候也说出了我心里的话,
还有对比赛的感想.

我们都很努力的在唱歌,
很多时候我们会迷失方向, 忘记最初的热忱,
可是每一次提醒我们这一切都是值得的...
是朋友和家人的爱与支持,
还有...只有好音乐能够带来的...
那种振奋人心的感动.

我觉得我是幸福的,
因为我的工作.
虽然我不知道怎样才会很红很红...
不过我的工作让我不断地被感动--

back from Xi'An, and 5 weekends away from home...

这5个周末,到了澳门,北京,西安,过演唱会的和音瘾...
也到了台北2次 PK星光...感觉很奇妙,第一次在电视节目上唱歌...
在youtube上也得到好坏参杂的回响,
不过感受到很多朋友的支持和爱护...真的很感谢 :)

好喜欢出国的感觉,可以跳出自己的comfort zone,
认识新的朋友,每一个对音乐的热忱,
让我不断有新的启发...
也学会从不同的角度体验生活,
每次的新体验,都让我更想提升自己...

刚从西安回来...这次力宏很尽兴的演出,让我很感动,
很希望能够在自己的范围内一样感动别人 ^_^

力宏(的mic)...的确离我有一段距离...

这次也认识了中国的作曲家/制作人曹轩宾,
还有中国湖南卫视<快乐男生>的亚军苏醒
难得有缘,可以享受道地的西安麻辣小吃,
也彼此share了好多自己在音乐路上的艰辛与梦想 :)

Music-Man DVD上市了...
刚才在飞机上看了一些...好震撼! 好...不可思议!

220809 Leehom Concert in Beijing

so... i have yet to blog about my virgin experience to PK at 星光大道...
but honestly I had so much 感想 and 感触 about the experience that it's hard to summarise quickly.

so before i get into nitty gritty,
i thought i'd share about happier times in Beijing :D

it's been a while since we've been to China,
and i forgot how huge the stage would be at the outdoor stadiums :)

insanely tall LED screens

backing vocals :)

i loved the 盖世英雄tour by the way...

i have a series of Microphone@Stadium pictures... lol

we were at 北京工人体育场surrounded by happening clubs

and we had our dinner here...
i guess they meant Fine Dining? aka opposite of Fast Food...

where they served....

spoilt for choice!

concert day we tried some 云南酸汤鱼

leehom's spaceship

and eric (our drummer) rocks the stadium!

See the thing about China, is always the endless throngs of 公安

and these people who sit on little stools facing the audience,
making sure they all behave like obedient schoolchildren.

the audience slowly fills up the 50000 stadium...

this may be what heaven looks like for some leehom fans

Jackie Chan!!! he appears and surprises the hell outta leehom

this is the closest i've gotten to jackie chan's back view! haha

and i love the way leehom looked after the very successful surprise,
看得出他真的好感动,好开心

he sang his own chinked-out erhu version of Man in the Mirror as a tribute to MJ,
and i love it :)

everyone in the audience got a copy of the limited edition CD for free as well :)

i tried to take a picture but it didn't turn out well

力宏状况很好, 心情也似乎很好,

thank you all for your birthday smses, facebook wall posts, tweets, facebook msgs, emails.

i had my first cake in taipei courtesy of ms kelly poon and mr derrick hoh!
and celebrated with the Singapore PK Team in Taipei! :D

n i landed in Singapore about 11pm, and my smses never stopped...
i really wanted to reply each one of them - but I had no time! :(

i slept till 自然醒 and received a call from Taiwan (!!!)
and before I had the time to update my friends about my disappointing performance at PK,
I had to choose my songs for the next PK again!

and my luggage completely broke so I had to get a new one,
and I'm planning a spontaneous trip to London next month so I had to book airtix asap,
and I was feeling pretty miserable since I hadn't seen my dear ZPGY friends in ages...

but they surprised me (successfully! i must say!) at my house after my family dinner !!!
LOOOOOVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDD

i was feeling really quite tired, and when i flipped the lightswitch to my room,
it flipped back.

eh?

so i flipped it on and it flipped off again.

Ginny: "Hi Kewei."
Kewei: "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"

(PS. where Ginny was hiding near my bed, there was another light switch)

And the rest of them (in the order that I saw: Dawn, Ein, Niko, Edmund, Milk, Mad, Kitty!) appeared in rehearsed succession yelling SURPRISE!!!
(they rehearsed 3 times to prevent 冷场 after the SURPRISE!!)

i was genuinely stunned.
i only started laughing about it .... 10 minutes later.
after the whole birthday cake and candle lighting and blowing and wishmaking hoohaa.

i just had to describe the entire SURPRISE setup because it's my FIRST!
and it was a GREAT ONE!!!
hahahahahahahahaha

Thank you ZPGY all for the love, and my dear sis for coordinating the ambush :)

Okay, and in 4 hours I will be taking off to Beijing for Leehom show,
and my throat is still bad...
and the doctor gave me a short course of STEROIDS (!!!) since i just can't find time to rest.

all this flying is insane for regular sleeping hours.

and in all insanity, i just had to quickly shoutout with love to all who wished me a happy birthday, at 3:30am when i need to sleep NOW.

so THANK YOU, again. :)

PK rambling...

so i'm just back from an awesome trip to Macau -
had fun jamming all David Tao songs again (after our last show in Jakarta last OCTOBER!)
and hanging out with the DT band :)

and our post party lasted right till 10am when i left for Singapore...
so i was pretty much a wreck the next day,
sleeping till 3pm...
vegging out at home.

and i had this insane cough throughout the concert, till NOW.
i braved through my Wala Wala set just now, trying not to strain my throat too much.

this cough, it's the kind that just spontaneously occurs without warning,
in the middle of singing, talking, or just breathing.
i think it's called the dry cough.
no phlegm, just a weird uneasiness in my throat.

now it has metamorphosised into a full-blown throat infection.

not the best condition to PK in Taipei for 星光大道this weekend.

so before i can get my act together, it's already Wednesday,
and my hair needs a cut-and-dye job,
and I just chose my songs this morning,
and the Taiwan production team is chasing me for a picture and an audition video that I would have to film by myself, to be sent immediately.

Great.

And it just feels really strange since nobody understands why the hell I'm going to PK,
since there was this big hoohaa of a competition that so many great singers joined,
and finally earned an opportunity to go,
and here I am just secretly flying there by myself.
...
...
...

It's a long story (I actually tried typing out the story, but after 2 paragraphs I gave up since it was Too Much Information), so in a nutshell,
I have auditioned for 星光5 before, but couldn't commit to the competition,
so they did tell me there was a possibility I could come back to PK.

I didn't know if this was for real, until after the Singapore selections,
when I called them again to check.
(I wouldn't have joined the Singapore selections anyway as I am waaay scared of competitions)

I think the 4 Singaporeans who went are sooo awesome, and honestly I'm sure if I joined the Singapore selections I wouldn't have made it.
I've long seen myself unfit material for competitions.

I'm just going to not think too much about it, not make myself nervous, and just do my thing.

My friend complaind about how difficult it is these days to be an independent filmmaker, how hard it is to find government arts grants, how the audiences have all been ruined by Hollywood and how the world has lost its taste... etc, etc. (German filmmaker) Herzog wrote back a personal letter to my friend that essentially ran along these lines:

"Quit your complaining. It’s not the world’s fault that you wanted to be an artist. It’s not the world’s job to enjoy the films you make, and it’s certainly not the world’s obligation to pay for your dreams. Nobody wants to hear it. Steal a camera if you have to, but stop whining and get back to work."

I repeat those words back to myself whenever I start to feel resentful, entitled, competitive or unappreciated with regard to my writing: "It's not the world's fault that you want to be an artist... now get back to work."

Always, at the end of the day, the important thing is only and always that: Get back to work. This is a path for the courageous and the faithful. You must find another reason to work, other than the desire for success or recognition. It must come from another place. ...

... In the end, I love this work. I have always loved this work. My suggestion is that you start with the love and then work very hard and try to let go of the results. Cast out your will, and then cut the line. Please try, also, not to go totally freaking insane in the process. Insanity is a very tempting path for artists, but we don’t need any more of that in the world at the moment, so please resist your call to insanity. We need more creation, not more destruction. 3 Months

I MISS TOURING!!!
The last show was 3 months agoooo!

3 MONTHS!!
I've never been in Singapore for a 3-Month stretch since March 2007.

But the beautiful thing about these 3 Months is that

I've worked a whole lot harder at my Wala Wala sets, working on many new songs for the repertoire :)

And I finally figured out a routine for myself to write songs, and I wrote a few songs too :)

And I started yoga! I've happily worked it into my lifestyle, and finally gotten a regular exercise routine in my life.

I've been trying to play the guitar, and now my left fingertips are permanently calloused.I say permanently because past experience showed that if you don't keep up with practising, your fingertips un-callous themselves very quickly.

I think I used the word "routine" more than once,
so for these months,
routine has been a good change. :)
