i know i have been away from this blog for years and i keep wanting to come back, but i fail.
for a while this blog seemed like a news bulletin,
since i had so many shows, promotional gigs, etc
i was sucked into Facebook and Twitter and Instagram,
i couldn't read or write anything longer than a paragraph anymore,
and i truly miss that.
i enjoy reading and writing,
and i want that back.
now that i'm back in my creative phase,
preparing for the next album,
i feel like i have more to share :)

enough of these insanely funny or crazy moving videos!
but then again, i love how creativity is so RIFE!

flight of life
It was the first time I watched a plane land,
all the way from gliding through the clouds,
to glimpsing the twinkling lights of the ships scattered in a calm black sea...
Soaring past the orderly grids of civilisation,
enter the familiar warm glow of streetlamps,
recognising the golf course, the giant ferris wheel,
and finally heading for land, grinding across the tarmac,
the silent machine of flight now rumbling to life.
It was almost like watching the birth of a child.
Breaking into raw, noisy reality from a smooth and woozy place beyond our reach.

what inspires you?
Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.
Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery — celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from — it’s where you take them to.
—Jim Jarmusch, The Golden Rules of Filming
If you can recreate, reinterpret and make them yours -
I guess that's what really matters - that you made a difference.

people power
some things, you just can't achieve alone.
but like all other things, they start from one person.
To quote Seth Godin, (since I can't put it any better than he did)
but like all other things, they start from one person.
To quote Seth Godin, (since I can't put it any better than he did)
My favorite part happens just before the first minute mark. That's when guy #3 joins the group. Before him, it was just a crazy dancing guy and then maybe one other crazy guy. But it's guy #3 who made it a movement.
Initiators are rare indeed, but it's scary to be the leader. Guy #3 is rare too, but it's a lot less scary and just as important. Guy #49 is irrelevant. No bravery points for being part of the mob.
We need more guy #3s.

the untold story of the world's biggest diamond heist
Headings like that send chills down my spine.
When sheer intelligence tears through social rules of legality,
and appropriates wealth based on their guts,
it is inspiring, and commendable in a very perverse way.
Think Catch Me If You Can,

or even closer to our true story, Ocean's 11, 12, 13....

Or maybe you just need 4.

Behold, our hero Leonardo Notarbartolo.
Sorry folks, you HAVE to be Italian to qualify as a classy, legendary mafia ringleader.
Tan Hock Guan just doesn't cut it.
According to our reporter Joshua Davis, you also have to "radiate sunny Italian charm".
So Notarbartolo's 4 set out to execute the biggest diamond heist in the centre of all diamond transactions, Antwerp.

After prying open 123 vaults, they were so loaded down they gave up on the remaining 37.
Is it just me, or shouldn't highly confidential safe boxes be stored in separate rooms?
Otherwise, if each owner were to have access to his gems this way, shouldn't he be accompanied by security?
The downfall of Notarbartolo is equally dramatic:
his heart overruled his head,
and he involved an accomplice based on friendship, not skill...
proving to be his Achilles heel.
Read this brilliantly written interview on Wired. :)

In February 2003, Notarbartolo was arrested for heading a ring of Italian thieves. They were accused of breaking into a vault two floors beneath the Antwerp Diamond Center and making off with at least $100 million worth of loose diamonds, gold, jewelry, and other spoils.
The vault was thought to be impenetrable. It was protected by 10 layers of security, including infrared heat detectors, Doppler radar, a magnetic field, a seismic sensor, and a lock with 100 million possible combinations.
The robbery was called the heist of the century, and even now the police can't explain exactly how it was done.

25 things.
i caved in, it seems like everyone cool is doing it, and i want to be cool.
1. i am a relentless, self-persecuting perfectionist. i do think it borders on destruction and a perpetuates a general disdain on mediocrity.
2. i can't cook, and have no interest in learning.
3. i swing from loving matte black nissan skylines, to having a baby pink laptop with a TwinStars puffy sticker on it.
4. i like robitussin honey cough drops (the one with liquid honey centre!) but can't seem to find it conveniently :S
5. i am a bad storyteller (i think).
everytime someone asks “So, tell me! What interesting/memorable/funny stories do you have from touring for 3 years with DT/Amei/JJ/Leehom?” and my mind is a blank.

i can answer questions like “So, what are they like?” but I don’t have a good story, sorry folks.
6. i spend an insane amount of time online.
many times i'm happier staying home exploring new things than hanging out with people.
7. i suck at keeping friends.
8. i don't enjoy the taste of alcohol, i'm boring when i'm drunk.
i just become gentler (i think).
9. i like living life like in movies.
sometimes i don't know what to do with the boring bits of my life which are not showed in movies.
10. i’m taking this very seriously –notice how I’ve tried to be VERY random.
11. I hate to sms. i find it an obtrusion to whatever I’m trying to do. I often ignore it, sometimes I look at it, and if it’s not urgent, I reply only when i’m in the cab/waiting for something. Urgent smses are usually quotations, where are you?s, etc. Smses requiring me to say , “wait let me check and get back to you” are usually ignored till I check and after which I reply with the requested answer. Which explains… no. 7. So… sorry guys!!!
12. dettol instant hand sanitiser is great for travelling.
13. I’ve never had a pedicure.
14. I am NOT A FAN of horror movies. I make it a point to keep scary images out of my head and prefer to wear a smile on my face.
15. I love the smell of Neutrogena rainbath, and the Palmolive one in purple.
16. I struggle very hard to keep the balance between my business brain, and my artistic core.
17. I DO NOT like soft toys. small ones are okay, I have some, but some is enough.
When I receive random gifts of such, my OS just goes “OH. MY. GOD.”
18. i’m not a gadget freak.
19. Lately, I have had little interest nor motivation in shopping. Too many consumer goods, too little meaning. Too much waste. Especially when I shop at wholesale outlets, the thousands of ugly bags, horrible looking clothes and jeans etc scare me. Where are all these products going to end up?? What about all those dying kids in 3rd world countries who need them?? Resource allocation is seriously misaligned.
20. I was inspired by www.storyofstuff.com . It’s a 20 minute video, but watch it.
21. when I was young, the Buddhist doctrine of “Do not let your possessions possess you” stuck in my head. I was never the kind to mourn the scratch on my phone/watch/laptop/car.
22. I wear my emotions on my face.
23. I play the erhu, piano, guitar, violin. In order of excellence.
24. I believe in karma.
25. I’m now working on my EP (potentially 6 track), aiming to release by July. I hope you'd be curious enough to take a listen. :D

do you want to see my... (part 2)
part 2!

clinique precious posy blush
- shiny blush! i was never a fan of glitter in makeup, but this is actually pretty nice.
clinique bare pinks blush
- darker shades good for contouring
stila bronzing powder
- i love this but i tend to get carried away and end up having my face a different colour from my neck haha...
shiseido blotting paper with peach powder (or something like that)
- great for mattifying your face

ettusais lip gloss
- the applicator is a flat plastic piece, which makes sense for a smooth application - super shiny
i always liked orangey shades because i tend to imagine that my skin color is more tan than fair... :p
maybelline lip gloss
- mm i got this for free buying some magazine. but it's nice and pink!
loccitane cherry blossom lip gloss
- yummy lipsmacking sticky gloss
kiehls lipbalm
- with a tint of red, this is perfect for light makeup
carmex lip balm
- i can't stand waxy sticks of lipbalm because they absolutely suck for cold weather. this is the BESTEST lip balm i've tried, better than burts bees or that tin of rose or whatever.
no more dry lips.
BUT it does have a weird medicinal taste/smell, (which i like!) but some people might not :p
they are everywhere in taiwan convenience stores and are dirt cheap.

this is my travelling stash aboard the plane.
wuta camille hand cream
- amazingly lightweight and works so well, great smell, dirt cheap at taiwan convenience stores.
loccitane cherry blossom handcream
- honestly, i prefer the wuta camille. this expensive tube looks pretty though. i use it when i feel terrible on board the plane and just need to smell it to feel happy :p
avene water spray
i don't know why these sprays cost so much money.
i don't know why i buy this.
when i wake up in the plane and my eyes are dry, this is the only thing that can save me.

stick your own earphones into this and watch your movie in peace!

random origins stuff
clear improvement active charcoal mask
- who can resist the clear pore effect of sebum sucking charcoal?
origins spot remover
- i only trust this small bottle of potent stuff for pimples

pantene clinicare is GOOD STUFF. i usually get my stash from Taipei or China.
the hair mask is great -
i think the Singapore equivalent is the one on the right - some 3 minute miracle thing.

bioderma solution
- this stuff is now available in singapore, i used to get it from Taiwan.
i used shu uemura's cleansing oil for the longest time (yellow, green, pink, now the latest purple) and i still use them once in a while, but this is the best non-oily makeup remover ever.
and honestly i feel cleaner seeing that my lashes and eye area are free from black gunk from the cotton pad.
with the oil cleanser i never really know.
i'm now onto my new book Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.

it is perfect for me at this time of my life :)
more on this soon.

do you want to see my...
girls are always infinitely interested in what makeup/skincare other girls are using.
so this post is for the girls.
they'd understand.
guys, you don't really want to know or hear about this bimbotic side of me.
i have used enough makeup/skincare throughout my growing up years
to know what i like, and what i will eventually use.
too many times, i was taken in by the glitter of pretty packaging and photoshopped pictures
to think i need another shade of blush, eyeshadow or lip gloss...
but experience has taught me they just end up being in a corner of my drawer,
forgotten after some time!
i've bought dark blue, light blue, green, white eyeliner blah blah blah to find that i really don't use them anyways.
etc etc etc
etc etc
etc
nowadays i am SOOOOOOO unexperimental with colours!
i really prefer to stick to basics. :)

allll the basics!
clinique anti-blemish moisturizer
- great for night use
clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel
- great for day - lightweight and does its job!
clinique pore concealer
- smooths out imperfections and pores, but i usually skip this since i have too much stuff on my face
clinique pore minimiser
- this is what i use instead of the pore concealer, it's more skincare than makeup.
clinique all about eyes
- i am addicted to eye cream. i feel like the lines around my eyes dramatically increase if i forget it at night.
clinique moisture surge
- when i fly, i wear nothing but moisture surge all over my face. it's the bestest!

bronze primer from smashbox
- it's so raved about i got 2 bottles from HK. it feels really smooth upon application but honestly it feels kinda weird.
i use liquid foundation, so the foundation almost just glides over it. (not a good thing)
not a fan.
shu uemura UV under base
- i've been using it for the longest time, 1st it's mousse, 2nd it's lightweight, 3rd it makes your skin better, 4th its got UV protection, 5th it's just too awesome.

laura mercier silk creme foundation
- i've heard much about this brand, couldn't decide which kind of foundation/shade to get.
this one is too sandy for my face... mm if you know what i mean.
shu uemura smoothing fluid foundation
- i use this all the time.
clinique oil free foundation
- this has less coverage, great for light makeup :)
clinique loose powder
- it does its job :)

ettusais concealer
- really old tube. generally effective under liquid foundation.
shu uemura concealer
- another highly raved product. it works for me - good coverage, not too cakey, but doesn't come off easily. most importantly it blends well!
i've seen one too many pictures of girls in clubs, whom upon flashlight have startlingly obvious concealer under their eyes.

glow glow glow!
maquillage illuminating powder compact
- i love this! for nose, tzone, browbone etc
shu uemura illuminiser
- this stuff is great for browbone, cheekbone and nose

clinique eyeliner gel
- eyeliner is very simple for me. i just use this gel with the tiny brush.
i was using liquid liner for the longest time - but it still smudges since i have inner double-eyelids.
after this i am a convert to eyeliner gel!
bourjois liquid liner
- i bought this bronze shimmery colour for fun...

talika eyelash gel
- i have really long lashes, but very few -_-" this... kinda works.
i don't know, i always forget to use it
H&M gold glitter eyeliner
- this thick crayon is perfect for lining under the eye, for the inner corner near the nose
red earth glitter gel
- for concert stage makeup, i just put tonnes of black eyeshadow, and layer this gel over.
glitter shadow doesn't work come on, it just falls off.
pat the gel over, and it STAYS.
yves saint laurent concealer
- highly raved product - i hardly use it now, the color is off for me..
clinique high impact mascara
- this works for me, and i prefer it to the washable mascara that they have...
clinique eyeliner crayon
- good for undereye lining...
(part 2 to come...!)

lastly,
just in case you were thinking this is all beauty without brains,
i am also currently reading Rant by Chuck Palahniuk.
i borrow books from the library and never remember to return them, chalking up massive fine amounts.
i'm never a book buyer unless i read something really good, which i then buy to keep.
it is an insane book, with such striking imagery and revolutionary ideas similar to his famous Fight Club (which made me first fall in love with his writing) that everyone should go read it.
not for the faint-hearted though.
