The Official Music Video of Tay Kewei's single《心型空洞》 is finally out! This is a song from her latest album 《轉身微笑》which is her first full Mandarin album. The music video also features Taiwanese actor Allen Chen, and their chemistry is amazing!
《轉身微笑》 will be available at all good music stores rom 15 September 2015.
the MV is the brainchild of Cheong H.H, and the team from Playhouse Pictures, my kindred spirit based in Kuala Lumpur ^_^
he's been a super supportive friend, always full of ideas to shoot for my songs, always willing to help, and he and his team has always been involved with big-scale productions and commercials, so i'm truly blessed that he was so excited about shooting my MV for me!
we left everything in their good hands, the concept, the storyboard, the planning, and it was only the day before that i heard about... a potential FIRE scene!
what??? still, i didn't ask much, we went ahead because i trusted them completely that it would be rockin. :)
we set off from Singapore at midnight, reaching KL at about 430am, and headed straight to the location at 6am.
it was an outdoor location in a seriously ULU place!
and the best part was the rain rain rain... which rained out the entire area and turned it into a mudslide.
we waited and slept in the van for about 2 hours... it was a major CRISIS and they had to decide if they wanted to abandon the location and shoot indoors instead....
in the end they braved it out and bought as many pair of BOOTS they could find for the crew and everyone else!!!
we had to figure out the best way to drive in, and behold the view.....
this is honestly an mud/sand/grit excavation spot for construction purposes, so kudos to the location manager!
the most amazing thing is that this place is probably no longer around in this world, since after more excavation it would look entirely different.
already posing for my next emo album cover shot.
my hairstylist Comb takes a shot at it.
setting up tentage!
that is ME in the tent... my portable toilet!!! running off to a corner to pee....
i had to hide in a tent cuz there were guys ontop of the cliff in charge of the power generator... throwing down electric cables...
my garang executive producer Jacie leading me to my spot
Cheong gets ready for the 1st shot...
the smoke throwers get ready...
the wind machine gets ready...
one thing i learnt from MV shooting - wind and hair and lipgloss DO NOT go together!!!
to add on to the misty, smoky effect, they add flour to the wind... creating this beautiful martian landscape effect on the mud!
my team baking in the sun with me... supporting me in spirit and in action!!!
faint from heat!
this is the final scene where i walk away...
they really went all out... lying on pieces of styrofoam
they broke a brand new snowglobe... T_T
i love these flowers! or plants! or whatever!
shading from the sun...
atop a hill
end of Part 1 (mountain scene)!
you HAVE TO check back on the Fire scenes next... Part 2 coming up soon!!!
I had an awesome time working with the incredibly popular, but humble and sweet Christian Bautista, hope to sing this with him again soon :)
When I first heard about singing with Christian Bautista, I immediately recalled his hit song "The Way you Look at Me" :)
I was tasked to write the Mandarin lyrics for my parts, and I took on the challenge immediately!
My producer Tat Tong and I rushed them out in 2 days... here it is!
It was not easy thinking of matching the Mandarin parts with the English parts, and especially when we had to work in the Mandarin bits into the harmonies.
I'm glad Christian took to the challenge and sang the last bit in Mandarin!

-->
脆弱的心交給了你
請對我小心翼翼
你我之間跨越界限
哪怕距離多遙遠
不管地动山移改变不了我的坚定And 'til life is through 我始终跟隨你
不管歲月來襲相信永恒的美丽 From the very start 答應我永不分離
I love you and you know I do There'll be no one else for me Promise I'll be always true For the world and all to see
Love has heard some lies softly spoken And I have had my heart badly broken I've been burned And I've been hurt before
So I know just how you feel (和你一起) Trust my love it's real for you (愛你需要勇氣) I'll be gentle with your heart I'll caress it like the morning dew
I'll be right beside you forever I won't let our love fall apart From the very start I'll be careful with your heart
不管地动山移 (地动山移)
改变不了我的坚定 (我們的坚定)
That 'til life is through, I'll still be loving you
不管歲月來襲 (歲月來襲)
相信永恒的美丽 (永恒的美丽)
From the very start (From the very start)
From the very start
From the very start 答應我永不分離
答應我永不...分離
Meeting him for the first time and we had to act like lovers! :p *shy*
i received a bittersweet piece of news while rehearsing for JJ's tour here, when my good friend Buwei from my ZPGY gang texted me saying, "sistic said only 2 tickets left! i need 9 tickets! how??"
i redirected him to my manager but to no avail, the seats were limited and my ZPGY cannot get tickets to my show!!! :(
But I still want to thank you for your love and support...!
but it is GOOD NEWS NEVERTHELESS!!! thank you early birds for getting your tickets early, i can't believe it's SOLD OUT!
7 days to the show... we are working hard for your money's worth!!! hehe
i seldom blog at length about what goes through my mind nowadays, instead i condense them into 140 characters or thereabouts.
but things are brewing, brewing. double-boiled goodness to be served straight up, come September!
before it all explodes onto the big screen, i want to say - i miss the simple, carefree me who could appreciate and draw poetic wisdom from all little things. i miss the space to sit down and write songs about all this little inspirations.
i'm twirled up in the messy sheets on this bed of commercial entertainment, but part of me wants to tear through and show you how i look in the nude.
still, for the first time in my life, i am stylishly dressed, my hair and makeup preened to perfection, and i feel a strong urge to readdress my shopping instincts and to revamp my wardrobe!
i am definitely enjoying this sartorial revolution!
i ran out of CD-Rs in my home. none in my sister's room either.
oh! when you need them the most!
i finally bought one, did a rough sequencing of the 13 tracks, and burnt the 13 unmastered tracks of my album, but to my dismay, there were 2 error files so i ended up having only 11 tracks, on my single, precious, sole CD-R.
nevertheless, 11/13 of my album is now spinning on my rides... what better way to test-drive your album than in the car!
i am slowly but surely feeling the vibe of the album now...
ahh. sequencing is so important! my sequence 1.0 has proved to be flawed upon first listen, i'll tweak it upon my next attempt to burn all 13 tracks!
ps. having said that, my boss is in charge of the track sequencing... but i will hope to give my 2 cents worth :)
As we brainstormed for this show, we decided to leave something tangible behind for our dear Hong Kong friends and supporters - and the idea of our 1st RAW Acoustic EP was born.
Featuring 3 originals. :)
We'll sign on every one of them - Accepting mail-orders now!
PS. This is a raw, home-made EP that will not be officially distributed, we will only be printing limited copies!
incredible album, i must say. it felt like an adventure, and i was found myself both amused and humbled, by the creative ideas behind it, and by the amount of effort and sheer work put into the album.
Check out www.youtube.com/D6T9TV for more behind-the-scenes production of this album... i learnt to appreciate the intricacy of the music more than ever, and looked out especially for the instruments used. :)
strips for mixing... these masking tape strips are laid down on the mixing board to label the tracks in each song
my name on the track Play *wooot!*
Check out the review written by Ken from 1003FM :)
The magnificent success of this viral music video makes me unthinkably happy.
I have always marvelled at simple, but well-executed ideas, that captures the hearts of millions, across the globe, across all boundaries.
I languished in the sweet, clever and endearing stop motion pictures, and it was only a day or 2 later that I decided to hear more of Oren Lavie.
I love every song on his MySpace, especially The Opposite Side of the Sea (whose strings remind me fondly of a great song: Stem by Shiina Ringo)
And then I ventured further, and naturally fell in love with the simplicity of his website.
How his personality shone through, in the way he writes, in the creative choices of his website design, all added up together, that magnetised his entire product - his music and art, that makes me want to spread the word about him, declare my love for his video and music.
I have been cooping up at home and making intensive creative decisions about my album layout/design.
I want the entire product (music, album, website, photos) to be simple, yet striking. It is an ideal that I struggle very hard to keep coherent,
I keep thinking if I should sign on to a label, or do it myself. I can't seem to decide, and I seem to incline towards DIY, where I can have full control over what I want.
There are pros and cons on each side of the coin, and the sheer complexity of trying to foretell unknowns... makes me want to slink back to concentrate on working on my product instead.
I don't deny that I need, and even crave guidance at some points, and I will ask, definitely. I will ask around for directions.
I'm not trying to be a maverick in my singer-songwriter career, I am trying to see what best fits in this grand scheme of things.... that is called MY LIFE .
This post is dedicated to Jazzy "mario-music" Jon, with frantic 120bpm solos at indochine, laced with Nintendo Mario Bros influences...
Jazzy Jon leaves for greener pastures in foggy London - to pursue his Masters in Music Performance, so technically Kewei & Co. is no longer... T_T
speaking of which, have quit my 3-nights a week gig at Indochine because of touring schedule :( So long, jazzy nights by the river... Before he left, i managed to pin him down and squeeze a solo out of him for my song! Ru Guo will be rearranged - and most probably end up in my album, featuring Jazzy Jon in a signature solo!
been intensively conceptualising the direction of my album, thinking about how i want each song to be like: the instrumentation, the feel, the vibe, the story...
i now hear every song in relation to my album template, and such a focused direction is very... energising :)
i must say, that i'm still in the very early stages of production, this may take half a year or so to bear fruit.
