I wasn't prepared so it didn't turn out very well though...

Her Morning Elegance - Oren Lavie

The magnificent success of this viral music video makes me unthinkably happy.


I have always marvelled at simple, but well-executed ideas,
that captures the hearts of millions, across the globe, across all boundaries.

I languished in the sweet, clever and endearing stop motion pictures,
and it was only a day or 2 later that I decided to hear more of Oren Lavie.

I love every song on his MySpace,
especially The Opposite Side of the Sea
(whose strings remind me fondly of a great song: Stem by Shiina Ringo)

And then I ventured further,
and naturally fell in love with the simplicity of his website.

How his personality shone through, in the way he writes,
in the creative choices of his website design,
all added up together,
that magnetised his entire product - his music and art,
that makes me want to spread the word about him,
declare my love for his video and music.




I have been cooping up at home and
making intensive creative decisions about my album layout/design.

I want the entire product (music,album, website, photos) to be
simple,
yet striking.
It is an ideal that I struggle very hard to keep coherent,


I keep thinking if I should sign on to a label, or do it myself.
I can't seem to decide, and I seem to incline towards DIY,
where I can have full control over what I want.

There are pros and cons on each side of the coin,
and the sheer complexity of trying to foretell unknowns...
makes me want to slink back to concentrate on working on my product instead.

I don't deny that I need, and even crave guidance at some points,
and I will ask, definitely.
I will ask around for directions.

I'm not trying to be a maverick in my singer-songwriter career,
I am trying to see what best fits in this grand scheme of things....
that is called
MY
LIFE
.

240109 Leehom Concert in Las Vegas

I flew for an insane amount of time to HK > LA -> Las Vegas.

Thank god for inflight entertainment.
2 Woody Allen shows + Alfie = too much sex on a plane, of too many goodlooking people.

this was my first glimpse of civilisation!



Strangely, the last time I was here was 10 years ago,
but I remembered the place very clearly...

My favourite place was the Bellagio,
watching dancing water, listening to Frank Sinatra.

This time round, I didn't have much time to go near to Bellagio.



The show was at MGM Grand,


which housed a Lion Habitat

he looks... a tad like leehom!


Traditional lion-dance before the show started -
I thought that was pretty cool!

After all, the arena housed a mini-Chinatown,
and in the spirit of Chinese New Year,
I believe it was a great celebration and time of bonding for the Chinese to be at the concert!

People from LA, Hawaii, Venezuela??

I enjoyed hearing Leehom speak mostly in English for the concert -
and it only occurred to me later that,
it was the first time that Jamie (guitarist) and Jingles (bassist) knew what leehom was talking about throughout the show!


Our post-party lasted all the way till 630am...
just in time for sunrise...


and i tried my hand at blackjack,
first time playing at a table in a casino!


i slept for a bit, and then, enroute to Harley Davidson Cafe :)



I couldn't stay longer cuz I wanted to be back for the New Year,
and honestly I shopped little at the Premium Outlets...

I got some BCBG dresses, Ed Hardy sneakers, FCUK tees, a Kate Spade wallet...
no Coach! haha.
I don't really like Coach.

I'm planning to (finally) get a car.
So no more frivolous spending!



I've also been thinking about my constant travelling, my irregular nomadic lifestyle,
my dreams to carve out a singing career,
my motivation to expand Yours Truly (my wedding & events company),
my ideas on writing for my own album...

...and my future lies before me like a desert, a huge expanse of nothingness.

I can take whatever route I want to go,
everyday I wake up and rethink my direction.

Somewhere in this desert, pulsates the treasure of a city that is Las Vegas,
the metaphor of megalomanic success.

I'm still looking for it.
